GitHub Pages vs Media Temple: What are the differences?
# Introduction
1. **Hosting Platform**: GitHub Pages is a free hosting service provided by GitHub, primarily used for hosting static websites from GitHub repositories. On the other hand, Media Temple is a paid web hosting service that offers a variety of hosting solutions based on user needs, including shared hosting, virtual private servers, and dedicated servers.
2. **Domain Options**: GitHub Pages allows users to host websites using a GitHub-provided domain (username.github.io) or use a custom domain. Media Temple offers users the flexibility to register a new domain, transfer an existing domain, or use a domain from another registrar.
3. **Technical Support**: GitHub Pages has limited technical support options available primarily through community forums and documentation. In contrast, Media Temple provides 24/7 technical support via phone, chat, and email for all their hosting services.
4. **Storage Limitations**: GitHub Pages has a limitation on the size of files and repositories that can be hosted on the platform, which may restrict the type of content that can be uploaded. Media Temple typically offers larger storage capacities based on the hosting plan chosen, allowing for more extensive websites and data storage.
5. **E-commerce Capabilities**: GitHub Pages is not designed for hosting e-commerce websites or applications that require dynamic content or server-side processing. Media Temple, on the other hand, provides hosting solutions specifically tailored for e-commerce sites with features like SSL certificates, dedicated IP addresses, and secure payment gateways.
6. **Customization Options**: While GitHub Pages offers a simplistic approach to hosting static sites with limited customization options, Media Temple offers more advanced customization possibilities through server configurations, software installations, and control panel settings.
In Summary, GitHub Pages and Media Temple differ in terms of hosting platform, domain options, technical support, storage limitations, e-commerce capabilities, and customization options.

We use Netlify to host static websites.
The reasons for choosing Netlify over GitHub Pages are as follows:
- Netfily can bind multiple domain names, while GitHub Pages can only bind one domain name
- With Netfily, the original repository can be private, while GitHub Pages free tier requires the original repository to be public
In addition, in order to use CDN, we use Netlify DNS.
