AppDynamics vs Skylight: What are the differences?
What is AppDynamics? Application management for the cloud generation. AppDynamics develops application performance management (APM) solutions that deliver problem resolution for highly distributed applications through transaction flow monitoring and deep diagnostics.
What is Skylight? The smart profiler for your Rails apps. Skylight is a smart profiler for your Rails apps that visualizes request performance across all of your servers.
AppDynamics and Skylight can be primarily classified as "Performance Monitoring" tools.
Some of the features offered by AppDynamics are:
- End User Monitoring
- Real-Time Business Transaction Monitoring
- Visualize & Manage your Entire Application
On the other hand, Skylight provides the following key features:
- Skylight looks at how your code is behaving in production, alerting you to improvements you can make before they become showstoppers.
- Skylight tells you exactly how your app is spending its time where it matters most—in your production environment
- Pricing starts at $20 for the first million requests, with automatic discounts for high-volume customers
"Deep code visibility" is the primary reason why developers consider AppDynamics over the competitors, whereas "Beautiful UI" was stated as the key factor in picking Skylight.
According to the StackShare community, Skylight has a broader approval, being mentioned in 39 company stacks & 5 developers stacks; compared to AppDynamics, which is listed in 10 company stacks and 11 developer stacks.

Hi Folks,
I am trying to evaluate Site24x7 against AppDynamics, Dynatrace, and New Relic. Has anyone used Site24X7? If so, what are your opinions on the tool? I know that the license costs are very low compared to other tools in the market. Other than that, are there any major issues anyone has encountered using the tool itself?
what are the most important things you are looking for the tools to do? each has their strong points... are you looking to monitor new tech like containers, k8s, and microservices?
