Auth0 vs Magento: What are the differences?

  1. Integration with e-commerce platform: Auth0 is primarily focused on providing authentication and authorization services for applications, while Magento is an e-commerce platform. Auth0 can be integrated with Magento to provide secure authentication and authorization services for users, enabling a seamless and secure shopping experience for Magento users.
  2. Customization and scalability: Magento offers a high level of customization and scalability for e-commerce businesses, allowing them to tailor their online stores to their specific needs. Auth0, on the other hand, provides out-of-the-box authentication solutions that may not be as customizable as Magento's features.
  3. User authentication capabilities: Auth0 specializes in providing a wide range of user authentication capabilities, including social login, multi-factor authentication, and passwordless authentication. Magento, meanwhile, offers standard authentication features but may require additional plugins or customization to achieve the same level of functionality as Auth0.
  4. Community support and resources: Magento benefits from a large and active community of developers and users who contribute plugins, extensions, and resources to enhance the platform's functionality. Auth0 also has a community of developers, but it may not be as extensive or specialized in e-commerce solutions as Magento's community.
  5. Cost structure: Auth0 operates on a subscription-based pricing model, where users pay based on the number of active users and the features they require. Magento offers both a free open-source version and a paid enterprise version, allowing businesses to choose the pricing structure that best fits their needs and budget.
  6. Focus and expertise: Auth0 specializes in identity and access management services, providing businesses with a secure and robust solution for user authentication. Magento, on the other hand, caters specifically to e-commerce businesses, offering a wide range of features and tools tailored to the needs of online retailers.

In Summary, Auth0 and Magento offer distinct features and capabilities, with Auth0 focusing on authentication and authorization services, while Magento specializes in e-commerce solutions for online businesses.

Advice on Auth0, Magento

Needs adviceonPHPPHPPrestaShopPrestaShopMagentoMagento

I am consulting for a company that wants to move its current CubeCart e-commerce site to another PHP based platform like PrestaShop or Magento. I was interested in alternatives that utilize Node.js as the primary platform. I currently don't know PHP, but I have done full stack dev with Java, Spring, Thymeleaf, etc.. I am just unsure that learning a set of technologies not commonly used makes sense. For example, in PrestaShop, I would need to work with JavaScript better and learn PHP, Twig, and Bootstrap. It seems more cumbersome than a Node JS system, where the language syntax stays the same for the full stack. I am looking for thoughts and advice on the relevance of PHP skillset into the future AND whether the Node based e-commerce open source options can compete with Magento or Prestashop.

Review

We devised SwiftERM to generate additional income from existing consumers on ecommerce websites. Available for those using Shopify, Magento, Woocommerce or Opencart, it runs in alongside (not instead of) existing email marketing software like Mailchimp, Drupal or Emarsys. It is 100% automatic so needs zero additional staff. It uses predictive analytics to identify imminent consumer purchases. The average additional turnover achieved is 10.5%. It is the only software in the world authorised to send Trustpilot to send product ratings in outbound emails. Developers and ecommerce retailers are invited to try to it for free, to establish viability this predictive analytics system is. SwiftERM is a certified Microsoft Partner MPN ID 6197468.

Needs advice

Currently, Passport.js repo has 324 open issues, and Jared (the original author) seems to be the one doing most of the work. Also, given that the documentation is not proper. Is it worth using Passport.js?

As of now, StackShare shows it has 29 companies using it. How do you implement auth in your project or your company? Are there any good alternatives to Passport.js? Should I implement auth from scratch?
