Nodetime vs Stashboard: What are the differences?

What is Nodetime? Performance Profiler and Monitor for Node.js Applications. Nodetime is an application performance management toolset in the cloud - an all-round solution for performance monitoring, optimization and troubleshooting.

What is Stashboard? An open-source status dashboard running on App Engine. Stashboard is a status dashboard for APIs and software services. It's similar to the Amazon AWS Status Page or the Google Apps Status Page. Stashboard was originally written by Twilio to provide status information on its Voice and SMS APIs. Stashboard is designed to provide a generic status dashboard for any hosted service or API. The code can be downloaded, customized, and run on any Google App Engine account.

Nodetime belongs to "node.js Application Monitoring" category of the tech stack, while Stashboard can be primarily classified under "Status Page Hosting".

Some of the features offered by Nodetime are:

  • Transaction Tracing- gives you visibility of what's happening inside your application by showing requests and operations, e.g. API calls, with a lot of information, including response time, CPU time, operations such as database calls, http client requests, file system and other API calls which happened at the same time
  • Sample Filtering- If there are too many requests or operations handled by the application, Nodetime will send only the slowest samples of requests and their operations to the profiler web console
  • Custom Tracing- Nodetime samples requests and some Socket.io communication out of the box. For other types of applications or a specific operation tracing need it provides simple API functions and extension mechanisms

On the other hand, Stashboard provides the following key features:

  • Track multiple different API or SaaS services
  • Set custom status messages and icons such as Up/Down
  • Show historical status for each service

Stashboard is an open source tool with 1.59K GitHub stars and 299 GitHub forks. Here's a link to Stashboard's open source repository on GitHub.
