Light Table vs Sublime Text: What are the differences?

  1. User Interface: Light Table provides a real-time feedback system where the code output is displayed immediately as the user types, whereas Sublime Text follows a standard text editor interface with no live feedback feature.

  2. Customization: Sublime Text allows extensive customization through plugins and themes, offering a high level of personalization for developers, while Light Table has limited customization options compared to Sublime Text.

  3. Supported Languages: Light Table has better support for Clojure due to its original design for ClojureScript, while Sublime Text supports a wide range of programming languages with syntax highlighting and autocompletion features.

  4. Community Support: Sublime Text has a larger community of developers contributing plugins, themes, and support resources, making it easier to find solutions to issues or enhancements, whereas Light Table has a smaller community base.

  5. Price: Light Table is free and open-source, making it accessible to all developers, while Sublime Text offers a free trial version with a one-time license fee for continued use, which may be a barrier for some users.

  6. Performance: Light Table is known for its slower performance when handling large files or projects compared to Sublime Text, which is typically faster and more efficient in handling various coding tasks.

In Summary, Light Table offers real-time feedback and better Clojure support, while Sublime Text excels in customization, community support, and overall performance, albeit with a price tag and wider language support.

Visual Studio Code became famous over the past 3+ years I believe. The clean UI, easy to use UX and the plethora of integrations made it a very easy decision for us. Our gripe with Sublime was probably only the UX side. VSCode has not failed us till now, and still is able to support our development env without any significant effort.

Goland being paid, as well as built only for Go seemed like a significant limitation to not consider it.

Since communication with Github is not necessary, the Atom is less convenient in working with text and code. Sublim's support and understanding of projects is best for us. Notepad for us is a completely outdated solution with an unacceptable interface. We use a good theme for Sublim ayu-dark

I decided to choose VSCode over Sublime text for my Systems Programming class in C. What I love about VSCode is its awesome ability to add extensions. Intellisense is a beautiful debugger, and Remote SSH allows me to login and make real-time changes in VSCode to files on my university server. This is an awesome alternative to going back and forth on pushing/pulling code and logging into servers in the terminal. Great choice for anyone interested in C programming!
