Marathon vs Weave: What are the differences?
What is Marathon? Deploy and manage containers (including Docker) on top of Apache Mesos at scale. Marathon is an Apache Mesos framework for container orchestration. Marathon provides a REST API for starting, stopping, and scaling applications. Marathon is written in Scala and can run in highly-available mode by running multiple copies. The state of running tasks gets stored in the Mesos state abstraction.
What is Weave? Weave creates a virtual network that connects Docker containers deployed across multiple hosts. Weave can traverse firewalls and operate in partially connected networks. Traffic can be encrypted, allowing hosts to be connected across an untrusted network. With weave you can easily construct applications consisting of multiple containers, running anywhere.
Marathon and Weave can be primarily classified as "Container" tools.
Marathon and Weave are both open source tools. It seems that Weave with 5.57K GitHub stars and 517 forks on GitHub has more adoption than Marathon with 3.87K GitHub stars and 875 GitHub forks.
