Eventbrite vs PayPal: What are the differences?
Introduction
Eventbrite and PayPal are both popular platforms used for online transactions, but they serve different purposes. Eventbrite focuses on event management and ticketing, enabling organizers to create, promote, and sell tickets for various events. On the other hand, PayPal is a widely used payment processing platform that facilitates secure online transactions for businesses and individuals. While both platforms offer transaction services, there are several key differences between Eventbrite and PayPal that set them apart.
- Pricing Structure: Eventbrite charges a fee per ticket sold, while PayPal charges a percentage of the transaction value plus a flat fee. Eventbrite's pricing structure can be advantageous for smaller events with lower ticket prices, as organizers can avoid hefty fees for high-value transactions. In contrast, PayPal's pricing structure allows for flexibility, particularly for higher-value transactions.
- Event Management Features: Eventbrite provides a wide array of event management features, including ticket customization, event registration, attendee tracking, and marketing tools. These features allow organizers to have a comprehensive suite of tools to plan and manage events effectively. PayPal, on the other hand, primarily focuses on payment processing and lacks the specific event management features offered by Eventbrite.
- Event Promotion: Eventbrite offers built-in event discovery tools, enabling organizers to reach a wider audience through its event listing directory. This feature can help promote events to users who are actively seeking events to attend. PayPal, however, does not have a dedicated event promotion or discovery feature, as its main focus is on facilitating secure online payments.
- Payment Options: Eventbrite accepts various payment methods, including credit cards, debit cards, and alternative payment options like Apple Pay and Google Pay. In contrast, PayPal offers even more payment options, including international transactions, recurring payments, and seamless integration with e-commerce platforms. This broader range of payment options makes PayPal a versatile choice for businesses that require diverse payment methods.
- User Experience: Eventbrite is designed specifically for event organizers and attendees, providing a user-friendly interface with features tailored to their needs. Organizers can easily manage events, track attendee information, and analyze data through Eventbrite's intuitive dashboard. PayPal, being a more generalized payment platform, provides a straightforward user experience for both businesses and individuals.
- Customer Support: Eventbrite offers customer support specifically for event-related issues, such as event setup, ticketing, and attendee management. PayPal, being a larger payment processing platform, provides broader customer support for various payment-related inquiries. The availability and specialized support provided by Eventbrite may be advantageous for event organizers who require assistance specific to their events.
In summary, Eventbrite and PayPal have distinct differences. Eventbrite focuses on event management and ticketing, offering specific event-related features and event promotion tools. PayPal, on the other hand, primarily serves as a payment processing platform with versatile payment options and broader customer support.
We use GoCardless to simplify the way clients and partners pay for our services. What intrigued us is the quick and easy ACH feature that gives our clients the option to log in with their bank account and shoot the funds directly to our account. The fee, compared to Stripe is less. Stripe and PayPal charge 2.9% + 30c and Stripe also forces the client to enter in all of their payment details manually and then if the payment doesn't work, the client has to try all over again. GoCardless charges 1% + 25c which is much more reasonable dealing with the large projects that we are currently working on.
We integrate GoCardless with Xero to easily send out quick invoices, receive the funds and track all revenue in one place.
