Hey everyone, I have installed the basic plan of Sentry and integrated it into our React application. I like how it shows errors etc, however, who would be the proper person to set up all the alerts and monitoring so it is useful to us? Is this something my developer can do? Is there a dedicated Sentry developer? Who can I contact to make this work for me?

Sentry

We never needed anyone dedicated to setting up or maintaining Sentry. My small team of developers handled it themselves. The documentation was easy enough to get it set up, and the most important part is deciding who should get notifications. I would highly suggest setting up a slack channel (if you use Slack) and set up the integration to notify there.

Thanks @Gordon - that is exactly how I was going to set it up. If my dev can, I will have him set up. Thank you

It's definitely something your developers should do, although I would give setting up the logs to a more senior developer, as you need to know what stuff are useful logs and what are not.

In any way, logging is one of the things that needs to be done in iterations, so you make the basic setup, then observe for a while, then tweak it later on to increase the useful logs and remove the useless ones, and so on, until you get what you need.

Hey team, New user here, please don't flame me if I don't know certain things lol I hope you are all doing well. I am developing a web-based platform for space reservations. I need a database to store the data I collect from customers. Would you say that Firebase is a good platform to integrate? I plan on using a developer to set it up. I just need advise on a back end solution. Thank you!

Mapbox

provides useful and intuitive API.

🔥 Firebase(FB) If you are familiar with NoSQL DB , FB🔥 will be good option as it provides serveless real-time update (realtime database, Firestore). Also it is almost free if you don't have heavy traffic and easy to manage backup. However, if you are not familiar with NoSQL DB and your DB schema is complicated, it will take a time to learn how to use FB 🔥 and RxFire library. Depend on your project, JS + Mapbox API + FB 🔥 might be enough to create your app.

So, it really depends on what you are trying to do. Firebase is not a relational database, and if you are going to have deeply nested data types and complex relationships - for instance Maybe spaces exist, and spaces have rooms, and rooms have availability, and you need to find all the spaces available at a certain time in a location - querying these relationships is much easier in a normal relational database. Firebase is fast and great for simple use cases, I've found it painful when trying to scale.

I started with WP and hated it. I was running a huge theme and tried customizing it to my needs and had limitations I wasn’t comfortable with accepting. Yes I was able to add/edit my own content but not customize everything with all our all the clunkiness. Now I have. MERN stack with bootstrap and although I need a developer to do many things I was able to do. My site is wayyyyy cleaner and faster. They say you only use about 20-40% of WP anyway.

Amazon S3 or CloudFlare as a CDN? Anyone like one over the other? My devs are switching to Amazon S3 but I would like other opinions - thank you in advance! Read a little how they differ, but would love an expert opinion. Thanks!

If you use another service from AWS, S3 is by far the better choice. They're way easier to integrate. One thing to consider is the cost, in some regions AWS price are more expensive than other.

Hey Steven, thank you. What would this cost difference be?

Depends on where do want to put your S3 region. You can estimate them in this page https://calculator.aws/#/createCalculator/S3

Does anyone else hate Twilio SendGrid's UI for creating emails? I love MailerSend but I can't recreate the same email styles in both and I want to keep them in sync. Thinking about Mailchimp..

Heroku was down for over a month, I gave them a chance and they could not deliver. I didn't make updates to my site in over a month. Terrible customer service and reliability.
